Meet Ladybug! She is a 6-year-old, approx. 35# Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog/Corgi mix. This soft and sensitive girl is looking for the perfect safe home where she can shine.
When Ladybug is in a situation where she feels secure, she is the perfect companion. She is very sweet and loves being petted and cuddled. She capers around and plays with her toys, and she loves a good fetch session outside. When she gets excited, her little white-tufted bunny tail goes a million miles per hour! She likes a good walk and doesn't pull on the leash. She is calm and quiet, and if you have things to do, she is happy to take a little nap and leave you to it. She is very intelligent and learns new things quickly. She's great in the house - no accidents and she doesn't get into mischief. She enjoys sleeping on the big bed. If her home is peaceful, Lady is peaceful and happy.
The twist is, when things are new, stressful or scary for Ladybug, she gets big feelings. This might mean she reacts out of fear, and she might try to nip. One of her big fears is children. She used to live with toddlers and it was extremely stressful for her, to the point where she lashed out at one of the children and could no longer live with that family. If she hears a small child on the television, she starts to cry and get very nervous. She is also very sensitive to emotion, so any house where there is a lot of fighting or stress may exacerbate her issues. For this reason, it is very, very important that Lady go to a peaceful home with no exposure to children whatsoever.
New situations and objects can be scary for Ladybug. Positive reinforcement is important for any dog, but for Lady, she will need to have slow and gentle introductions to anything new and she may react badly to negative treatment. New friends will take a little extra time for her, and strange men will take even more time, so it is very important Ladybug has a female caretaker in her home. She also has a fine and fluffy coat (like hugging a cloud!) that will take more than average effort to groom, so her ideal person will be willing to put in the time (or financially commit) to keep her looking extra beautiful.
Ladybug has lived with another dog friend in the past, and would probably do well with another quiet, calm dog after a slow introduction. She has also lived with cats. She's spayed, up to date with vaccinations, chipped, and is heartworm negative. She requires a fenced yard for fetch and likes having her people out in the yard with her while she snoops around. She doesn't like the crate and is nervous about baby gates but has been trustworthy in the house.
If you are the patient, experienced person who can ease Ladybug's fears and provide her with a secure, calm, childless, and stable home, you will be rewarded with the companionship of an absolutely great dog. Her love and loyalty shine through every day, and when she is happy (which, when things are chill, is basically all of the time) she will bring you so much joy and be the best friend you could have. The right home will have a true gem with Lady.
