FROM EMACIATED TO THRIVING!
MACI HAS SPECIFIC ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE READ HER ENTIRE BIO BEFORE APPLYING!
Meet Maci! The girl who is learning that life can be full of full bellies, cozy couches, and people who love her.
For those of you who haven’t been following Maci’s journey, this sweet girl is a 5-year-old Borderdoodle who came into rescue about seven weeks ago. When we first learned about Maci, she weighed approximately 27 pounds. After having 2 pounds of severely matted fur shaved off, she was left weighing just 25 pounds of skinny, emaciated pup.
Fast-forward to today, and Maci is a 38-pound, happy, loving snuggle bug! Her transformation has been incredible, and she’s continuing to learn what it means to be safe, loved, and cared for.
A FULL BELLY IS HER LOVE LANGUAGE
After going without the consistency every dog deserves, Maci has worked hard to get to a healthier relationship with food. She’s doing wonderfully, but she still has some food insecurities. If it’s edible and within reach, she considers it fair game! She literally inhales her meals, so a slow feeder will likely be a lifelong necessity. The good news? While she’s very food-motivated, she does not chew on non-edible household objects.
SHE’S LEARNING HOW TO BE A BELOVED FAMILY MEMBER
Maci is both house-trained and kennel-trained! She’s also an exceptional leash walker—she walks beautifully on a leash and would make a wonderful walking companion. There is one little catch: Maci will not potty while on the leash, so she’ll need access to an appropriate potty area where she can go off-leash in a safe, secure space.
Now, she’s working on feeling confident in her new world and learning that she doesn’t have to be afraid anymore.
Maci can be very skittish around unfamiliar people and dogs, so she needs a patient family willing to let her settle in at her own pace. She will need slow, thoughtful introductions to dogs her size or larger. She currently lives with two dogs under 20 pounds and does well with them.
A QUIET, PATIENT HOME IS A MUST
Maci is very fearful of loud noises, so she would likely do best in a calm home with older, respectful children who understand that she needs time, space, and gentle interactions to feel safe
PART-TIME ENERGIZER BUNNY, FULL-TIME SNUGGLE BUG
Maci has the best of both worlds! She has a playful side and enjoys romping around with her small-dog friends. But when the sun goes down? This girl is ready to clock out, claim her spot on the couch, and snuggle up with her favorite human.
She’s proof that even after a rough start, a dog’s story can change with a little patience, a lot of love, and a safe place to land.
