Meet Legend — Ready for His Forever Home
Legend is approximately 4 years old, 65 pounds, and ready to find the active, loving home he deserves.
With his superhero good looks and perfect leash manners, Legend gets plenty of attention walking the streets of New York City. But this handsome, athletic boy is dreaming of something different: room to run, balls to fetch, trails to explore, and a home outside the city where he can thrive.
Legend came to NYC ACC in fall 2025 after being surrendered by his family with an injured femur. He was neutered and underwent FHO surgery before being released to a medical foster, where he spent four months recovering. Legend has healed beautifully and is back to running, playing, hiking, and enjoying life to the fullest.
Before his surrender, Legend lived with a family and another dog. During foster care, he has also successfully stayed with a dog friend—whom he happily followed and learned from—and a cat he liked very much. Legend is polite, joyful, smart, crate trained, and great in the car. He knows tricks, loves his bones and toys, and is always ready for an adventure.
Legend has also made tremendous emotional progress. When he first arrived in foster care, he was uncertain and looked for reassurance. As he became comfortable, he learned to relax and share his toys. With growing comfort came a very enthusiastic desire for attention that, at times, included jumping and nipping or blocking a person rubbing Legends back. Legend is most excellent at recruiting people to do just that.
To help prepare him for his forever home, Legend recently completed a six-week stay with an animal behavior specialist in Rochester, where he worked on building confidence, managing his fears, establishing healthy routines, and learning how to be an adult dog with skills to succeed.
Thought at this point this happens rarely, Legend can still become excited or demanding and needs his owner to give him clear, consistent boundaries. The "sit/down/stay" commands he knows well and can hold them for a long time. The consistency and mental and physical activity have been a winning formula for Legend.
Legend's ideal home:
A home outside of a big City with access to outdoor space and opportunities for exercise
An adopter who is experienced and comfortable with large, active dogs
Someone who enjoys walks, hikes, play, and keeping a smart dog engaged
A patient person who will continue giving Legend structure, consistency, and affection
An adult home without children
Legend has already overcome a great deal. What he needs now isn't rescuing—it's belonging. With the right person, this affectionate, adventurous, larger-than-life dog has everything he needs to become a wonderful companion.
