DESCRIPTION

Big presence, big personality, all wrapped into one very handsome package… this is Bear. A confident, people-loving guy who soaks up attention and meets the world with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Bear is estimated to be just over 1 year old dog, he weighs 60 lbs and is likely a pittie mix but as always with rescue, breed and age are our best guess. What we do know for sure? Bear is a dog who is ready to learn. He’s already showing us that he’s responsive, eager to engage, and because he is treat motivated that combo is beautiful for training.

Let’s start with his people skills, because this is where Bear shines brightest. He is confident, loving, and genuinely enjoys human interaction. He seeks out connection in a warm, easy way and will happily be part of whatever you’re doing, soaking up your attention or just laying nearby to be part of scene. Bear has been fostered in a loving home and his foster shared just how lovely he was at lounging. On top of that she shared that he is fully house and crate trained. Hello to pre-programed skills!

Now, Bear is still in that last stretch of the puppy days so there is an element of “work in progress.” He is experiencing so much of life for the first time and it is exciting. On leash, he’ll need continued guidance as he learns how to contain his excitement when he sees other dogs. The good news? He does respond to corrections and can settle, especially with clear, consistent handling.
With other dogs, Bear is social and interested, but this is where keeping in mind that he is still a bit of a puppy helps. He brings puppy like enthusiasm to play sessions and for some dogs that can come in a little too strong or a little too pushy. In his foster home he has shown that he is respectful once he gets to know the dogs. For example, he lived with a spicy chihuahua that quickly made it clear that he was not interested in playing (in exactly the way you would imagine a chihuahua would) and he respected that from then on. With structure, proper introductions, and the right dog match, he is going to be a wonderfully fun playmate. Bear would do well with a confident, calm, larger female dog who won’t be overwhelmed by his size or playfulness.

Bear has not lived with cats but was introduced to our house cat to gauge if he could live with feline friends. He showed curiosity and restraint with our cat who is calm and was especially lazy the day they met. We see signs that he could live peacefully with a feline friend. A dog-savvy, confident cat and slow introductions would be essential. Energy-wise, Bear is active and engaged without being over-the-top hyper. He’ll thrive in a home that can provide regular exercise, mental stimulation, and ongoing training. He loves enrichment puzzles which are wonderful exercise for his brain.

At his core, Bear is a good dog with a big heart and a sweet personality… he just hasn’t learned all the rules yet, but who has? Honestly, dogs like Bear are incredibly rewarding. You get to watch the lightbulb moments happen, build trust, and shape him into the dog he’s meant to be.

If you’re like us you see the potential in this handsome boy! If you enjoy training and understand that the best dogs are often the ones who need a little guidance to shine… Bear is your boy and absolutely worth it!
