Finn - American Staffordshire Terrier Dog for Adoption in East Orange, New Jersey

MEET FINN — A FAMILY DOG LOOKING FOR HIS NEXT FOREVER HOME

Finn is an adorable pittie mix who was adopted from the East Orange Animal Shelter in June 2024. He’s now about 3 years old, and through no fault of his own, his family is no longer able to keep him.

The good news? Finn’s family and the shelter are working together to find him a new home BEFORE he has to return to the shelter. We have until December to make that happen. We know a shelter return would be stressful for Finn after two years in a home, so we’re hoping his next chapter can begin without him ever having to go back.

And there’s a lot to love about this boy!

Great with people & school-age kids. Finn has lived happily with four children for the past two years, with the youngest being 7. We think he would do well with respectful, school-age children and older.

Friendly with everyone

Tug-of-war champion
Give this boy a good game of tug and he is one happy guy!

Crate trained
Finn knows his crate and will happily go in when asked. He also has no separation anxiety when his family leaves the house.

Dog interactions need some management
Finn can become reactive when he sees other dogs while out walking. His people have learned that he takes his cues from them, and when his handler stays calm, engaged and proactive, Finn generally does well too.
Most of his encounters with dogs his size or smaller have been positive. He is more likely to get tense around dogs that are slightly larger than he is. Treats, changing direction and keeping him engaged are generally effective at redirecting him. Finn follows directions well and is very responsive to his person.

Like many pitties, Finn can get a little enthusiastic when he’s excited and may jump up to say hello.

Finn is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

We would love to find Finn a home where he can settle in, be loved and continue being the happy family dog he has been for the past two years.
