Hi, I'm Bolt!
American Bully | 2 years old | 65 lbs | Professional Hugger & Certified Big Baby
I may look like a big, tough guy with my blocky head and muscles, but I have a confession to make...I'm kind of a scaredy cat.
I came to the shelter after my owner could no longer care for me, and when I first arrived, I was pretty overwhelmed. New place, new sounds, new smells, new people... it was A LOT for a sensitive guy like me. It took me about a week to decompress and decide these shelter people might actually be okay.
And once I did? Boy, oh boy, did my personality come out.
Underneath all these muscles is one of the BIGGEST love bugs you'll ever meet. I give the absolute best hugs and the softest kisses. Lean down near me and there's a pretty good chance I'll put my paws on your legs, tuck my big ol' blocky head right into your neck and soak up every ounce of affection you're willing to give me.
Once you're one of my people, I LOVE you.
I'm also ridiculously handsome, if I do say so myself, and I've got a smile that makes it pretty hard not to smile back.
Before coming here, I lived with another dog and cat(s), and staff expects me to do well with children with proper introductions.
The biggest thing I'm looking for in my new family is someone willing to give me a little patience.
Staff doesn't think I had a ton of opportunities to get out, experience new things or meet many different people in my previous home, so strangers can make me nervous. I'm not a dog who goes looking for trouble or lunges toward unfamiliar people. Instead, when I'm uncomfortable, I may give a quiet, low grumble that says, “Hey... I'm not ready yet. Please give me some space.”
And honestly? That's okay.
I just need someone who will listen when I tell them I'm uncomfortable and give me the chance to realize I'm safe.
The shelter can also be an incredibly stressful environment, especially for a sensitive dog like me. Staff has already watched me go from a nervous, unsure boy to a goofy, affectionate cuddle bug with the people I trust, and they believe I may blossom even more once I'm settled into a home of my own.
I don't need someone to force me to be brave overnight. I need someone who will give me time. Someone who will let me come out of my shell. Someone who will show me that new people and new experiences don't have to be scary. And most importantly, someone who means it when they say I'm home for good.
I'm a sweet, handsome, sensitive guy with SO much love to give, and I can't wait to find the family who will give me the security and patience I need to give all that love right back.
