Nyx - AVAILABLE TO FOSTER OR ADOPT - Akita Dog for Adoption in Clayton, North Carolina

Beautiful Nyx is ready for a home who would like a loyal and playful companion. She is a champion fetcher, enjoys cooling off in her kiddie pool, loves dogs and would enjoy a playful canine companion and a nice yard to run in. She's one of those dogs who greets us enthusiastically like she hasn't seen us in weeks, when it has really only been a few hours!

Nyx is probably an Akita mix, 40 pounds and between 1 and 2 years old. She is very healthy, smart and trainable, and energetic.

Nyx is also a sensitive dog. When dogs reject her it hurts her feelings she whimpers quite sadly. Not all dogs appreciate her play style, which is often a full throttle chase, but most playful dogs like her. She is actually afraid of cats, so she is looking for a cat-free home.

She is braver every week, but Nyx is timid of new people. Our Red Barn Rescue Behavioralist has trained her with a game of touch to introduce her to new people. Once Nyx plays fetch or takes a walk with a new person, a friendship is instantly formed. (We don't know her history, but clearly somebody gave her reasons not to trust strangers.) Because of her nervousness around strangers, we're looking for an adult only home for Nyx. But for the right person, Nyx will be entertaining, lots of fun and a devoted pet!
