Meet Gigi & Gizmo — A Very Special Pair Who Found Each Other
Some cats are meant to find each other. Gigi and Gizmo are one of those pairs.
Both Gigi and Gizmo were rescued from the streets of Cairo, Egypt, but their stories came together in a beautiful and unexpected way.
Gigi was found with eyes so severely damaged by an untreated infection that she ultimately lost her sight. Then, when Gizmo was just an 8-week-old kitten, he was rescued from the streets and brought into the same home. Somehow, this tiny kitten and the petite, blind young cat found each other—and they bonded.
It seems that Gizmo became Gigi's little seeing-eye friend, while Gigi helped Gizmo blossom into the incredibly loving boy he is today. They play together, keep each other company, and clearly have a special connection that makes them happiest when they are together.
For that reason, Gigi and Gizmo must be adopted as a pair.
Gigi
Gigi is the sweetest little lady you could ever hope to meet. She is a petite, beautiful gray tabby with an enormous heart—and one of the loudest purrs we've ever heard!
Although Gigi cannot see, she certainly doesn't let that stop her from enjoying life. She is remarkably confident and adaptable and has learned to navigate her surroundings beautifully. She loves attention, absolutely adores being petted, and will come running when you call her. She is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when she knows her people are nearby.
And don't let her blindness fool you—this little girl is an adventurer! One of her favorite things to do is climb all the way to the very top of her cat tree. She knows where she wants to go and isn't afraid to get there!
Gigi is estimated to be about 9 months old. Her blindness is simply one part of who she is—not what defines her. What defines Gigi is her loving personality, her confidence, her amazing purr, and the tremendous amount of love she has to give.
Gizmo
Gizmo is the cutest little firecracker—and quite possibly one of the most entertaining kittens you'll ever meet!
Now about 7–8 months old, this sleek gray boy has adorable ears that give him an almost rabbit-like appearance. He is playful, curious, affectionate, and full of kitten energy.
Gizmo loves getting pets and playing, but he also loves his people. He will happily follow you from room to room, keeping tabs on whatever you're doing and making sure he doesn't miss out on the action. He has the kind of personality that makes you smile simply because he's nearby.
And while Gizmo is a playful, energetic boy, he also has a wonderfully affectionate side. His relationship with Gigi seems to have helped him become the loving, confident young cat he is today.
Together, They Are Something Special
Gigi and Gizmo aren't simply two cats who happen to live together. They are companions, playmates, and family.
Gizmo provides Gigi with companionship and confidence, while Gigi seems to have given Gizmo a sense of security and helped him become the wonderful young cat he is today. Watching them together makes it easy to see that they genuinely enjoy having each other.
Their ideal home will be one that understands that young cats need play, interaction, enrichment, and plenty of love, and that is willing to make a few simple accommodations for a blind cat. Both of these cats previously lived in a shelter with dogs and would be open to a cat-friendly calm dog with a very gradual introduction.
Living with a blind cat is much easier than many people realize. Gigi does not need to be treated as fragile or helpless. She simply benefits from consistency—keeping furniture and important resources in familiar places, talking to her so she knows where her people are, and allowing her to use her other remarkable senses to navigate her world. Her bond with Gizmo is an added gift.
If you're considering adopting them but aren't familiar with living with a blind cat, don't let that scare you away. There is wonderful information available about helping blind cats thrive, and we're happy to share resources and guidance with their adopter.
Ready for Their Forever Home
Gigi and Gizmo have already overcome so much. They survived the streets of Cairo, found each other, and now they've made their way to Northern Virginia in hopes of finding the forever family they were always meant to have.
They are both fully vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, and microchipped.
Their adoption fee is $250 each, or $500 for the pair. This helps cover a portion of their veterinary care, travel expenses, required certifications, broker fees, and other costs associated with bringing rescued cats to the United States. Adoption fees also help support the Egyptian rescuers who continue to save cats from the streets and give them a chance at a better life.
Gigi and Gizmo are currently being fostered in Hyattsville, Maryland (20782).
If you have room in your home and in your heart for two extraordinary young cats, please reach out for an adoption application.
Sometimes the most special cats are the ones who found each other first.
Now they're just waiting to find you.
