Sugar is waiting for someone who will see her heart.

Sugar, born June 12, 2024, has been waiting for her forever home for almost two years. She is a very special girl who had a difficult start in life, spending her early days in a chicken coop with her siblings and having very little contact with people. Because of this, Sugar has never become the outgoing, confident cat who runs up to greet everyone. Instead, she feels safest having quiet spaces where she can retreat and observe the world from her own little hideaway.

But there is something very important we have learned about Sugar: there is a sweet girl in there, and she is capable of making a connection when someone gives her the opportunity to do so. In her foster home, Sugar has surprised us by choosing to come out and spend time around a particularly quiet and gentle young person. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes cats like Sugar connect with people in their own unique way.

We know Sugar may spend much of her time hiding when she first arrives in her new home. We know she may not be the cat who jumps into your lap or asks for attention. And that's okay. Sugar needs someone who won't measure her progress by what a typical cat does, but who will celebrate the little things. The first time she stays in the room while you're there. The first time she comes a little closer. The first time she accepts a gentle touch. Those moments will be huge milestones for Sugar—and incredibly rewarding for the person who earns her trust.

We are looking for a quiet, patient home for Sugar with someone who genuinely understands that love doesn't always look like cuddles. Sometimes love is simply giving a cat a safe place to be herself and letting her decide when she is ready to come out.
