DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Tanuki. I am a 2-year-old female, Calico Point, Siamese mix cat. In Japanese, my name means "raccoon," and everyone says my color-point markings make me look just like one. I have the softest fur you've ever felt—my foster mom says it's as soft as bunny fur. Pictures don't quite capture how beautiful I am in person! Although I'm still very young, I've already been through more than any cat should every go through. As a kitten, I was kept by a hoarder because they wanted to breed me over and over, hoping my babies would look just like me. Before I was even a year old, I had already been forced to have multiple litters of kittens. When Animal Control rescued me, I had five nursing kittens of my own. I was nothing but skin, bones, and fur—severely dehydrated, malnourished, and desperately sick. My babies were placed with another caregiver so I could focus on surviving. It took months of loving care before I was finally healthy enough to be considered for my spay surgery. But my journey wasn't over yet. On the day of my surgery, I became frightened and suddenly couldn't breathe. I was rushed to an emergency hospital, where X-rays revealed I had a diaphragmatic hernia—my abdominal organs had moved into my chest, making it difficult for me to breathe. It was a life-threatening emergency. The amazing team at Purring Hearts Rescue refused to give up on me. Even though my prognosis was uncertain, they chose to fight for my life. My foster mom says she never doubted I would pull through, because I've been a survivor since day one. After emergency surgery and a long, steady recovery, I'm finally healthy and ready for the life I've always deserved. Now, all I'm searching for is a family to call my own. I adore people and have so much love to give. My favorite place is curled up beside someone who loves me. After everything I've been through, I would really like to be the only cat in the home. I've spent my entire life sharing myself with others—now it's finally my turn to be someone's cherished princess! If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate companion with a heart full of gratitude and resilience, I would love the chance to meet you. I haven't met dogs or children. I am spayed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, tested for FIV/FeLV (negative/negative), and have my microchip. If you are interested in making me a part of your family, please click on the following link to fill out an Adoption Application http://www.purringheartsva.org and a volunteer will reach out to you within 72 hours. I hope to hear from my forever family soon!
