Miss Kitty (DOB 1998) arrived at Safe Haven in mid-May with her beloved brother after their owner could no longer care for himself or his cherished cats. When their owner moved into assisted living, his family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender the tightly bonded siblings. Born in their owner's home, the two had never spent a day apart. Sadly, despite extraordinary efforts by our volunteers to help her brother recover from severe dehydration and weight loss, his health continued to decline, the difficult decision was made to let him go peacefully. Miss Kitty then faced yet another loss - the sudden absence of the companion who had been by her side her whole life. In just a matter of days, her entire world was turned upside down. After losing her lifelong home, her beloved human, and now her bonded brother, Miss Kitty is desperately searching for a forever home where she can once again feel safe, loved, and secure as she begins this final chapter of her life.
Despite being deaf and partially sighted, Miss Kitty navigates her world remarkably well. She is a sweet, gentle soul who adores attention and rewards every petting session with an abundance of purrs. Once she knows you're there, she's eager for affection, enjoys her meals, and never says no to a tasty squeezable treat. At 18 years old, she's understandably not very active and appreciates carpeted surfaces that provide extra support for her arthritic hind legs, but she gets around just fine at her own pace.
Like many senior cats, Miss Kitty has a few special needs. She has Stage 2 kidney disease, which is actually quite manageable and impressive for a cat of her age. While she's not fond of prescription kidney wet food, she happily eats kidney-care dry food and absolutely loves her Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers meals. She drinks plenty of water, uses her litter box reliably, and simply benefits from a senior litter pan with a lower entry. Despite being elderly, Miss Kitty does not require any medications, making her an easy and delightful companion to care for.
Miss Kitty's ideal home would be a quiet one where she can be the center of attention. After all the changes and losses she's experienced, she feels most comfortable without other cats around and would love a peaceful environment where she can relax and feel secure.
At 18 years young, Miss Kitty has earned the right to spend her golden years being cherished. She is a loving, kindhearted soul who asks for very little beyond a comfortable home, gentle affection, and someone to call her own. In return, she'll fill your days with endless purrs, sweet companionship, and the special joy that only a grateful elderly cat can bring.
