Smokey (Courtesy Post) - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in Vine Grove, Kentucky

Meet Smokey, he was abandoned by his people, but was rescued by the kind people managing the guard shack at a local gated community! He got neutered, vaccinated and treated for parasites (he may be coming due for vaccines again). He also tested positive for FIV. Don't let that scare you, he is very adoptable and could be a great companion for a long time! There's more info about FIV below.

Smokey is sweet and gentle, but a little shy. Since he has been living at the guard shack, he has not been around other cats or dogs, so we do not know how he would do in a home with them. He does like to go outside, not ideal... However, if someone could provide him with a safe outside experience, he would love it!

From the pictures, you can probably tell that he has gotten very comfortable inside, and with any luck and the right home, he may never want to go out again!

Smokey is marked as "special needs" because he is positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This does NOT impact his adoptability. FIV is not transmitted to humans or other animals, it only affects cats. It is also, not easily transmitted to other cats, usually through a very deep bite, mating or from mom to her babies. Since, Smokey is neutered and as long as he isn't fighting with other cats, he can live with other kitties that are FIV negative (in fact is is currently living with kitties that are all negative for FIV!). He can also be an only-kitty or live with other FIV+ cats.
