Penelope’s looking for love!
Winter can be unkind to creatures living outdoors, and Penelope bore witness to that. Rescued from the streets of Hamilton, this sweet, brown tabby made her way to EHS along with a few other fellow wanderers. She is currently enjoying life in one of our foster homes while she waits to be welcomed into a forever family.
ABOUT PENELOPE
- In foster
- Penelope spent her first days tucked away in spots she deemed to be safe—but with patience, and lots of love and understanding from her foster mom, she is becoming increasingly comfortable with human company and is beginning to show her true personality.
- Her foster mom describes her as “a brave girl who is learning how to play, enjoys napping on the bed at night, and is fascinated by things that move on a laptop or TV screen.” Her forever family might just need to set her up with her own YouTube account!
- As Penelope continues to gain confidence, she is spending more time out in the open but is still nervous when it comes to fast movements. A slow approach with this sweet girl will surely lead to more positive interactions.
- The windowsill seems to be her place of choice, though she becomes more venturesome at night and will roam around the house and eventually jump up on the bed to keep her foster mom company.
- Penelope definitely knows what she wants. Although she doesn’t appreciate being picked up, she is beginning to enjoy the comfort of her foster’s lap and will cuddle if she is in the mood. When she has had enough, she might give a gentle nip to ask for space.
- Penelope loves pets. Sometimes the magic of a tube treat is needed to lure her out of hiding, but she’s learning that she is safe and is beginning to come out on her own. She enjoys long body pets when she is really sleepy but will accept jaw and head scritches at other times. Slowly extending a closed fist will encourage her to give head-butts, with her subsequently rolling around in pure bliss.
- Penelope purrs loudly, making biscuits and drooling a little when she is happy. What a sweetheart!
- As she continues to become more comfortable, her playful side is emerging. An enjoyable interactive activity is watching her trying to catch a wand toy as it is tossed in her direction. She might even treat you to some acrobatics—leaping in the air to capture her “prey.” Oh, how lovely it is to see her relax!
- Food might well be the key to this girl’s heart; Penelope loves tube treats (Catit and Temptations only, she does not like Churu treats!) and Temptations crunchy treats. She also enjoys her soft food and kibble. This girl loves her food!
- Penelope is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, SNAP-tested for FIV/FeLV, and up to date on core vaccinations.
PENELOPE’S IDEAL HOME
- Penelope is a gentle cat who would likely do best in a calm environment.
- Given that she sometimes nips, a home without young children would be the best fit for Penelope.
- Her past remains a mystery, so at this point her comfort level with other animals is unknown.
Penelope is patiently waiting to meet her suitor. Could you be the one she has been looking for? A meet and greet is just a click away. Apply to adopt Penelope today!
