He is a healthy body condition. Mister is urgently in need of rescue who can manage his primary diagnoses: - conjunctivitis (severe, likely bacterial with underlying viral component) - severe periodontal disease with root exposure at many teeth. The degree of gingivitis (severe) at the premolars and molars, as well as the presence of redness (erythema) at caudal oral mucosa is suggestive of existing or emerging feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS). A few teeth are missing (either resorbed or fallen out) NOTE -- FCGS is a chronic, immune-mediated, and often painful inflammatory disease of the oral cavity. The underlying cause is not fully understood but is thought to involve an inappropriate immune response to oral antigens (such as plaque bacteria) and commonly associated with viral exposure/infection (such as calicivirus). Gold standard therapy includes Mister is on terramycin for his eyes, and his appetite is going to be monitored closely given his degree of dental/oral disease. He is currently eating wet food well, avoiding dry food. In need of urgent rescue who can: - continue to treat/monitor his conjunctivitis - bring him, ideally, to a veterinary dental surgeon (specialist) for dental extractions (may need to be staged in two procedures). Mister will minimally need 10 teeth extracted, possibly more if indicated based on x-rays and evaluation. Surgery can also be performed by capable/willing general practitioner, though these cases of partial or full mouth extractions with possible FCGS involvement are typically referred to specialists. - continue to provide long-term pain management/treatment if oral inflammation remains despite partial or full mouth dental extractions With dental intervention Mister could thrive, and is likely to have many years ahead.
