Bella is 17 years old, and sadly, she found herself at our door in one of the most heartbreaking ways imaginable. She was left in a carrier outside our shelter with just a few cans of wet food. The person who left her did so while we were open, but never came inside to speak with anyone, and there was no note or information about her.
One of our staff members happened to pull into the shelter just as the person was getting back in their car and about to drive away. She tried to stop them, but she couldn't reach the car before it sped away. All she could do was watch as someone drove off, leaving a 17-year-old cat behind.
When we found Bella, it was clear that she was a senior and had been struggling. She was underweight, her coat was rough and unkempt, and she was missing several teeth with others in poor condition. But nevertheless, a gorgeous girl with emerald green eyes.
Bella had a microchip, but unfortunately, it wasn't registered. After some detective work, we were able to track down the veterinary office that had implanted it. That's how we learned her name - Bella. And that she's 17 years old.
Our veterinarian did a thorough exam and discovered that Bella has hyperthyroid disease and also kidney disease. She has started medication for her thyroid and is eating a prescription renal diet. She also receives subcutaneous fluids twice a week. Thankfully, she's been doing well, and we're seeing her settle in and feel comfortable despite everything she's been through.
Bella is sweet, friendly and resilient with a strong spirit. She has the cutest little meow and enjoys pets and getting brushed. These days, Bella is perfectly content with the simple things in life-good food, cozy naps, and a peaceful place to call her own. At 17 years old and after everything she's been through, she deserves every bit of that.
Bella gets along with cats, but mostly prefers to keep to herself. What she really needs is someone willing to open their heart and home to a senior girl who deserves to spend her remaining years feeling safe, loved, and cared for. Bella should be curled up in a warm bed, enjoying her wet food (she loves wet food), taking long naps in a sunny spot, and with someone who isn't going to give up on her.
We would love to find Bella a foster home or, ideally, a forever home where she can enjoy the quiet, comfortable retirement she so deserves. She already lost the home she knew. We hope we can help her find a new one where she will be loved for the rest of her life.
Bella has been through enough. Please give this sweet senior the chance to know what it feels like to be someone's beloved cat again.
