🩵 Meet Bodie — From a Dark Ditch to a Second Chance 🩵

Hi, I’m Bodie. I’m not quite a year and a half old, and I’m a petite little guy with a very big heart. My friends at ARF tell me that the hardest part of my story is behind me now. I’m ready to believe them. šŸ’™

Not long ago, I was found down in a deep, dark ditch in Hartford, Connecticut. I was skinny, dirty, starving, and crying for someone—anyone—to hear me. No one knows how long I had been down there or exactly what happened to me before I was found. All anyone knows is that I desperately needed help.

And thankfully, someone heard me.

I was rescued just in time and brought to ARF, where suddenly I had things I hadn’t had in a while: a warm place to sleep, nutritious food in my belly, veterinary care, gentle hands, and people who cared whether I was okay.

At first, everyone was especially worried about my eyes. My pupils were very dilated, and I wasn’t reacting normally to light or movement. The volunteers and veterinarian feared that I might be blind. But they weren’t giving up on me.

Over the next few weeks, something wonderful happened. As my body began recovering from everything it had endured—with proper medical care, good food, rest, and lots and lots of love—I began to change. I grew stronger. I started feeling better. And when the vet examined me again, we got the news everyone had been hoping for: I’m not blind! ā¤ļø

It appears my vision problems may have been temporary and related to the terrible condition I was in when I was rescued. I’ve also been neutered and microchipped, and now there is just one more thing I need to make my transformation complete:

A family. My family.

Despite everything I’ve been through, I haven’t lost my ability to love people. In fact, I’m an incredibly affectionate little guy. I absolutely LOVE being petted and soaking up attention from the ARF volunteers. After going without love for who knows how long, I seem determined to make up for lost time. 🄹

When it comes to sharing my home, though, I think I’d be happiest as your one and only cat. I’d love to have my people—and all those pets, snuggles, and cozy spots—to myself.

That doesn’t necessarily mean I couldn’t have a canine friend someday. One of my favorite pastimes at ARF is hanging out safely on the catio and watching the shelter dogs romp and play outside. I seem pretty fascinated by them! With a calm, friendly dog, proper introductions, and a little patience, I might just surprise everyone and make a new kind of friend.

We may never know where I came from, how I ended up alone in that ditch, or why someone failed to appreciate what a sweet little cat I am. But maybe my story doesn’t need to be about where I’ve been anymore.

Maybe it can be about where I’m going.

I’m dreaming of a home where I’ll never wonder where my next meal is coming from. Where I’ll never have to cry for someone to find me. Where gentle hands reach for me every day, and I know they belong to my people.

A home where I’ll finally understand that I am safe, wanted, and loved.

I survived the darkest part of my story.

Will you be the person who gives me my happily ever after? 🩵🐾

Love,
Bodie

Some very important things you should know when applying:

Adoption fees for young adult and adult cats are $250 ($265 if microchipped).

What our adoption fees include:
Adult cats have received a wellness exam, fecal exams to test for intestinal parasites, treated for any known/existing conditions to bring them back to health, SNAP tested for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), and Heartworm. They have also received flea/tick preventative, have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on both their distemper and rabies vaccinations.

For all applicants:
Our volunteers do our very best to match an animal’s needs with that of the family’s needs and desires. In an effort to be transparent, please note that we just don’t know how our individual animals, many who have been through prior stress or trauma before arriving at our shelter, will react around young children who are still learning what it means to respect an animals’ boundaries. We are happy to have a beneficial discussion about safety between children and pets. Applicants and their family members arriving for meet and greets will be asked to sign a liability waiver upon arrival and prior to meeting our animals. Please also expect to have at least 2 visits as part of the adoption process at our shelter- one for the initial meet and greet, and one for the adoption appointment if a match is made. It’s important to us that we are properly matching animals to adopters, preparing our adopters for their special adoption day, and for a lifetime of happy pet ownership with your adopted pet.
Please double check your application for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting it to us. Please be as thorough as possible when answering application questions as the more you elaborate, the more information we have to consider, the more likely we are to have a full picture of the care, support, and love our cats/kittens will receive for their adopted lifetime and your particular application will be at the top of our mind when placing cats/kittens in their chosen forever homes.

You can complete an application at ARFCT.org and submit it to our email at arfct.adoptions@gmail.com for consideration. Thank you!
