What my friends at ACC say about me:
I have lived with cats in my previous home.
Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!
I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.
Shadow is laying curled up at the back of his top cubby, head up, ears forward, and observing the room around him with dilated pupils. When the cubby door is opened, he lip licks, remaining in his spot at the back of the cubby. When softly spoken to, he hesitantly leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand before backing away. He is offered a squeeze up and immediately comes forward again to eat it, allowing petting on the head and cheeks as he eats and retreating to the back of the cubby when he is finished. As the assessor continues to speak to him, he head bunts and rubs his face against the portal exit of the cubby. He is able to be slowly coaxed to the main area of the kennel when he is offered more squeeze up. Shadow allows all petting, leaning into petting on the head and cheeks but occasionally dodging the assessor's hands and tensing slightly when pet down his back. When noises begin to occur, he pauses and slowly walks back to the cubby. He remains at the back and no longer comes forward, so full pickup is unable to be attempted. He is tolerant of being lifted from within the cubby, remaining a bit tense but without further issue.
Shadow tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Primary Color: Black Weight: 10.5lbs Age: 2yrs 0mths 0wks
