DESCRIPTION

Cakester and Toffee Crunch are a sweet and playful pair that love doing absolutely everything together! These two were part of a feral cat colony of 6 in Flushing, Queens that was TNR’d back in June 2025 by LICFF, where they were being cared for by local residents in a quiet dead-end block. The colony was named after Oreo cookies after one of the feeders saw Cakester and wanted to name him Oreo! This scrappy pair survived several winters - including the recent 2026 blizzards in New York - and have stuck together throughout all the elements. A dedicated feeder (now a foster parent) saw how friendly and sweet this Oreo squad was and decided to take the steps to begin socializing them in preparation for eventual adoption. Cakester and Toffee Crunch in particular stood out because they were the most social, the most friendly, and the most comfortable with the feeders. The current foster parent trapped and housed them since April 2026, and have recently transitioned them to her apartment in Sunnyside, Queens in September to introduce them domestic cats and to transition into living with people 24/7. This duo has already acclimated to living in their new foster home only weeks into the transition!

Cakester is a short-hair black and white tuxedo cat. He absolutely loves playtime and will come running from across the apartment at the sound of a jingling feather wand. He is incredibly sweet, playful, and silly, and loves a good scritch. Not only did he get along with the other 4 Oreos in the squad (they all loved him), but he immediately got along with the foster parent’s two domestic male cats. He is extremely food and treat motivated, so don’t be surprised if he jumps on your lap when you whip out the Churu!

Toffee Crunch is a very pretty short-hair tabby and white mix (her tabby fur color is a mix of dark grey and light bright). She even has a cool “sleeve” on her left front arm! Like Cakester, she LOVES to play, and would even beg you to play with her. Her preferred toys are the feather wand and the fuzzy worm wand. She is incredibly curious and will usually take the lead in exploring unknown terrain. Within a week of transitioning to the current foster’s Sunnyside apartment, she found her way to most of the windows where she enjoys looking outside at the birds. When you speak to her, she loves to arch her back and rub against nearby surfaces to show how excited she is to have your attention. She cares very deeply for Cakester and is super protective of him. So far she has gotten along well with the current foster parent’s two domestic male cats, but she is not afraid to set her boundaries if they get too close or step too far by vocalizing or giving a stern swat of her paw.

This bonded pair absolutely adores intimate playtime with their human, so please only apply for them if you know you have the capacity to play with them regularly. They are happiest when they are chasing a feather wand or a fuzzy squiggly worm! They love to play-wrestle with each other, sleep together, and generally follow each other around.

Cakester and Toffee Crunch are up to date on vaccines and parasite treatment. They are fully litter trained (currently on pine pellet litter). They have both been spayed/neutered and have tested negative for FIV/FeLV. The vet has indicated that Toffee Crunch has a cracked front tooth, but it is not something to be concerned about right now, especially if she is showing no indication of discomfort or loss of appetite, but to keep an eye on it. Both cats have a very healthy appetite and love mealtime.

Cakester and Toffee Crunch must be adopted together - no exceptions. This duo grew up together on the streets of Flushing, weathered the storms together, and have developed an inseperable bond that is absolutely beautiful to witness daily.

In terms of their socialization process, they are generally comfortable with humans but at this stage are a bit cautious and even initially skittish of anyone they are not familiar with. They are most familiar with their current foster parent because she has been feeding them for so long, but it will take a bit of time to get fully comfortable with a new human. They love being spoken to. Currently, sudden and loud movements startle them, and they don’t like to be picked up or approached too aggresively, but they are comfortable with gentle pets and scritches on the head. They don’t display any aggression toward humans at all (they even handled their first vet appointment very well despite being scared!).

The ideal adopter is someone who is patient and is familiar with cats who need extra time to feel comfortable with them (bonus if you are familiar with former ferals). But your patience will pay off because these cats have vibrant and silly personalities that shine every single day.

We really hope to find a forever home for this scrappy duo where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace and with plenty of love.
