Male, domestic short hair, brown tabby
Heath, is a sweet gentle sole who is adorable and charming. He absolutely loves to play fetch multiple times a day. His favourite play toys are little toy mice, he plays hard and then sleeps a lot.
Heath may not be much of a snuggler or lap cat, but he loves being close to his people. Whether hes sleeping nearby, curling up at the foot of the bed, or quietly keeping you company, Heath is happiest when hes near those he loves. His gentle nature and loyal companionship make him a truly special boy.
He is not a jumper, but loves to be on his cat tower. He follows his foster mom everywhere. Hes pretty chill.
Heath likes to be put over his foster moms shoulder to be packed around to look out the windows for birds. He has the smallest squeaky meow and little grumbles / rumbles when happy or sleeping.
He is a very affectionate boy who will give you gentle nips on your legs if you arent paying attention to him. He also gives gentle little love nibbles to your fingers/hand as he pulls your hand in close to his body. He loves pets and being combed.
He is very in tune with his surroundings and does not like changes though Heath doesnt shy away when company comes over. He wants pets and it doesnt matter who gives them.
To help Heath settle into a new space, we recommend starting him off in a smaller safe room so he can adjust gradually and feel safe. Reading the Rule of Three document included with the adoption resources will help you help Heath settle in.
Ideal Home
Heath would do best in a calmer predictable adult only home. He needs a low stress life to help prevent recurrence of urinary crystals. He would make a great companion cat for someone who works from home or is retired.
Compatibility
Cats: Heath would be ok with a friendly feline friend (Heath needs a special diet) but would also be ok as a solo companion kitty soaking up all the attention from his humans.
Dogs: Heath was indifferent to the large senior cat savvy dog in the foster home
Kids: Heath would do best in an adult only home or a home with older kids who will spend lots of time with him and play fetch with him
Age
Estimated age: 2 years
Veterinary Information
Heath has been neutered.
Heath developed urinary crystals in his urine in the past (crystalluria) and needs to stay on a veterinary prescribed S/O diet for life, to help reduce crystal formation that could block his urethra again. He has been doing great since being on this diet for several months, and some of this food will be provided to the adopter and is obtainable via veterinary clinics. Encouraging water consumption (such as with a pet water fountain) and feeding some of the prescribed diet in wet food form is also recommended to ensure he is urinating regularly to flush his urinary tract.
Here is some information on crystalluria in cats: (https://vcacanada.com/know-your-pet/crystalluria-in-cats
Heath has experienced upper respiratory infection resulting in weepy eyes while in foster care. This is usually caused by the feline herpes simplex virus and is very common in rescued cats and kittens. He is doing very well to manage these symptoms by having a common amino acid supplement, lysine, added to his food daily. A cat can have a flare-up of symptoms due to stress, such as a change of environment such as an adoption centre and/or new home. A document explaining this in more detail will be included with his health record card.
