Moxie is a spayed young (approximately 1 year old) Mom cat whose litter has grown up and she’s ready for a home of her own. Here’s what her foster home says about her:
How would you describe the cat's general personality?
Moxie is gentle, independent, and very sweet with a playful side.
Does the cat enjoy being pet?
Yes! She will come up to you and flop over nearby so she can get pets. I feel like she loves long pets down her back and cheek and chin scritches.
Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?
I haven't tried the belly much because she was weaning her kittens, so it may be a trap or it might not be.
Does the cat come on your lap?
Not really.
Does the cat like to be held?
I haven't tried much, but she generally has squirmed out of my hold.
Does the cat sleep in your bed?
Not really.
Does the cat seek your attention?
A bit! She will occasionally follow me around when I'm walking from room to room looking for pets.
Does the cat like to play?
Yeah!
What are the cat's favorite games and toys?
She loves a wand toy and will chase it around quite a bit.
How vocal is the cat?
Not super vocal.
What kinds of sounds does the cat make?
She will sometimes make some soft yowls.
Does the cat scratch a scratcher?
Yes. I have seen more luck with the horizontal
Does the cat always use the litter box?
Generally, yes. We had some issues with a cat peeing on my bed when the family first moved in, but it's unclear if it was Moxie or one of her kittens doing it. The problem seems to have gone away once I moved a litter box into the bedroom.
What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?
Since she's been a new mother, she's been free feeding on Purina One kitten food in kibble.
Is the cat picky about food?
She doesn't seem that interested in wet food for whatever reason, but she might just need the right food.
What is the cat's favorite treat?
She has enjoyed greenies and some dried chicken.
Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?
No.
Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?
No.
Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?
No, but she has made a bit of an attempt when overstimulated from petting.
Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?
No.
To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?
She is understandably shy at first, but after an hour or so, she might come out of hiding around new people.
If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on?
She has been excellent with her kittens, cleaning them and playing with them, but I haven't observed her with other adult cats or dogs.
In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?
Moxie is such a sweet, gentle girl. I believe once she graduates from motherhood and really settles into someplace she's comfortable, she'll be an excellent companion cat.
What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?
When she first arrived she was a little bit shy. But it doesn't take very long to overcome this, and it just requires a little bit of patience.
