Morty - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption

My foster writes: Morty is kind of a strange little guy - in the best way.
He's a bit awkward and mysterious, spending much of his time tucked under the sofa, emerging on his own terms with his signature big, stompy steps (you'll always hear him coming).
He's low-key suspicious of the TV, and while he's not especially food motivated, he'll gladly accept a Churu as a peace offering. Morty loves playing hide and seek, chasing wand and string toys, zooming through his tunnel, and occasionally batting at your feet from beneath the couch.
He isn't needy, but he is affectionate once you earn his trust. He'll wander out to check on you, meow politely for back/butt scratches, and sometimes curl up next to you or in your lap.
When he's really comfortable, he'll dramatically flop over for pets, roll around showing his belly, and gently paw at you if you stop petting him too soon. He purrs loudly and even drools a little when he's extra happy.
He'll check on you in the bathroom to make sure you're okay, and somehow always needs attention the second you're on a meeting. He tolerates being picked up (while looking mildly confused), then may casually scamper off once you put him down.
Laid back, independent, sweet, and a little goofy - Morty just does things on his own time, and it makes it special when he chooses you. 🐾

What my friends at ACC say about me:
Morty tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children.

In the shelter, Morty can appear cautious or stressed at first, but with gentle handling and time, he shows tolerance for petting and curiosity about his caregivers. He enjoys calm interactions and prefers affection on his own terms.

My Ideal Home
Morty would thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home with experienced cat parents who understand shy or sensitive cats. He needs time to acclimate, patience, and a predictable routine. Allowing him space to settle in, approach voluntarily, and build trust gradually will help him feel secure and confident.

Good with Kids?
No young children. ACC recommends Morty be placed in a home without children under 5, as he needs extra time to warm up and may become stressed in busy or unpredictable environments.
