BLAIR

🇺🇸
Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

DESCRIPTION

** $730 for the rescue that pulls **

Blair ACCT-A-242462 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Blair must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, experienced FOSTER or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, MAY 29TH at 10AM. Should Blair's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Blair was one of 50 cats that came to ACCT after their owner passed away. In a house with that many cats, a person's ability to socialize each little personality is diminished, as essential care like food and water is prioritized. Blair is accustomed to the company of other cats and his person, but less so to being doted on. While we have seen marked improvements in his behavior, he still remains aloof, and occasionally reactive. Staff have noted that Blair communicates clearly when he feels uncomfortable and benefits greatly from patient, low-pressure interactions that allow him to feel safe and in control.

Since arriving at the shelter, Blair has slowly shown small but meaningful signs of progress. He has shown curiosity toward enrichment like wand toys and treats, and more recently has even begun hesitantly accepting gentle touch in exchange for wet treats. Staff also report that Blair spends much of his day quietly people-watching from the front of his kennel, showing interest in his surroundings while continuing to build confidence at his own pace.

Continuing to keep him in a kennel is inhibiting his progress. We would love to see this guy able to explore and enjoy his life on his terms, either with an understanding adopter, a foster experienced with socialization, or a rescue that can set him up for success. Blair is also available as a working cat, since he may not be interested in human companionship and might prefer a business relationship.

Behavior Notes

5/18 Staff
Blair has started to let hesitantly let me touch his butt in trade for wet treats!

4/8 Staff
Interested in wand toy, watches from a distance. As soon as I approached in kennel, ears back, tense posture and hissing. Disengaged to further not stress out.

2/11
A handsome gentleman who spends his day people watching from the safety of his kennel door. Seems semi interested in attention from people but started hissing when I opened kennel door. He let me give him a pet and politely hissed at me to stop. Tossed in some treats lifted his paw timidly and I left him alone.

Medical Notes
A few cats from Blair's home had heart disease, which may suggest a familial component, so a cardiac evaluation with a veterinarian is strongly recommended.
