**Meet Violet & Dash Two Little Superheroes Looking for One Forever Home**
Violet and Dash aren't related, but after everything they've been through together, they might as well be.
Violet was found as a stray near W. Esplanade and Melody Street with a devastating injury to her front left leg. The injury permanently damaged the nerves, and despite weeks of treatment and rest, the leg never regained function. After giving her every opportunity to heal, our veterinarian determined that amputation was the best option. Today, Violet runs, climbs, plays, and does everything any other kitten does—just on three legs. She also has some crazy sleeping positions. She keeps us laughing daily.
The very next day, another critically injured kitten arrived. A tiny kitten weighing less than a pound had been found outside a Jefferson Parish building unable to move just laying in the grass. He had a broken back leg, injuries to his pelvis, and air trapped around one of his lungs that made it difficult for him to breathe. After emergency treatment and eight weeks of strict cage rest, Dash made an incredible recovery. His fractured leg healed so well that our veterinarian does not recommend amputation unless it ever causes him pain in the future.
Because both kittens required extended cage rest, they recovered side by side. What started as two frightened strangers turned into a remarkable friendship. They comforted each other through recovery and have become completely bonded.
Now that they've both been medically cleared, they're finally ready to start the next chapter of their lives.
Violet doesn't let having three legs slow her down for a second. Dash keeps up right beside her. They wrestle, chase toys, explore together, and curl up together when playtime is over. Wherever one goes, the other isn't far behind.
For that reason, Violet and Dash must be adopted together. After surviving so much, we simply can't imagine separating them.
If you're looking for two resilient, affectionate, playful kittens with an incredible story and even bigger hearts, Violet and Dash are ready to become part of your family.
***Why Are Some of Our Kittens in a Separate Area?***
Welcome to kitten season... and unfortunately, ringworm season, too!
This year has been especially challenging. We rescued a litter of kittens from behind Target, and they tested positive for not one, but **two different types of ringworm**. From there, despite our best efforts, it spread to some of our other kittens. Because ringworm is contagious through direct contact and spores in the environment, we've temporarily closed off part of our kitten area to help stop the spread. We ask everyone to sanitize their hands between visiting kittens, but we know excited little animal lovers sometimes forget!
The good news? **Ringworm is very treatable.**
Our kittens have already been started on oral medication along with topical treatment, and as of July 1, they've completed about two weeks of therapy. They have one more week of medication before their veterinary rechecks. If a kitten isn't completely cleared, the treatment protocol is simply one week off medication followed by another week on, until they're finished.
Every kitten is still receiving their age-appropriate veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, and everything needed to prepare for adoption. In fact, many veterinarians will tell you that kittens often recover from ringworm **faster in a home environment** than in a shelter. Less stress, more love, and fewer environmental spores can make a big difference.
If you adopt a kitten that is still finishing treatment, we'll send you home with the medication and instructions. The topical treatment is simple—often just applying a small amount of antifungal cream to the affected area once a day.
We know the word "ringworm" sounds scary, but despite its name, **it isn't caused by a worm at all.** It's a common fungal skin infection that people and pets encounter more often than you might think. (Just ask the parents of wrestlers—ringworm is practically a seasonal sport!)
Our biggest wish is for these babies to spend their kittenhood in loving homes instead of growing up in a shelter while they finish treatment. They deserve couches, toys, sunny windows, and families who will love them through one last week or two of medication.
If you've been thinking about adopting a kitten, don't let ringworm scare you away. You won't just be gaining a wonderful companion—you'll also be helping a kitten heal in the best place possible: home.
If you'd like to meet me, stop by Jefferson Feed (corner of Jefferson Hwy. and Central Ave.). We kindly ask that visits be made earlier in the day, as the last hour before closing is reserved for medications and end-of-day care.
Adoption Fee is $350/pair. We like our kittens to have friends so we want a pair adoption if you have no other pets unless we know a specific kitten prefers to be alone. All kittens are Spayed/Neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines, FeLV/FIV tested and microchipped.
