Meet Hemmingway, a resilient, sweet-natured guy with a heart of gold and a backstory that shows just how tough he is!
Born around 2021, this handsome brown tabby was living as a stray in the Paris, Ontario area before being brought into safety. His rough-and-tumble past left him with a few battle scars—including a healed, sensitive ear from an old fight—giving him a rugged, distinguished look. Because of his life on the streets, he tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). While the name can sound intimidating, cats with FIV can live long, healthy, and happy lives indoors with basic, routine care!
Despite his tough beginnings, Hemmingway is a total sweetheart who loves human affection. He is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, and feeling great after receiving some recent dental work.
Here are a few helpful things to know about living with Hemmingway:
Petting Preferences: He enjoys gentle affection, but because of his past ear injury, you'll just want to be extra careful and gentle when petting around his head.
Handling: Like many independent guys who spent time on their own, he prefers keeping his paws on the ground and doesn't enjoy being picked up.
Feline Friends: While he needs a home without dogs (due to a tendency to stalk them), he does very well with other cats! He currently shares space with two female companions at the shelter and gets along with them great.
Hemmingway is fully healthy, neutered, and ready to swap his outdoor survival days for a warm, safe indoor lap. If you’re looking for a loving companion with plenty of character, he can't wait to meet you!
