Fennec is a laid-back little guy who likes being near his people without insisting on being the center of their universe. He’s not a lap cat, but he can usually be found curled up beside his foster mom or draped across his feline foster aunty, whom he is just a little obsessed with. He’s generally chill around new people and cats and could probably make a good roommate for a friendly adult or senior female cat. He’d also love to be adopted with his foster brother, Sergei, who can match his enthusiasm for roughhousing. Together, they’re a very handsome matching set of lean little brown tabbies!
Fennec had a rough start in life, but he’s making up for lost time. Rescued from a hoarding house nearly starved and with severe infections in both eyes, he fortunately responded very well to a generous diet and antibiotics. Once he was healthy enough for a closer examination, it turned out he had severe entropion—his eyelids rolled inward, causing his eyelashes to constantly scrape his eyes. Surgery fixed the problem, he’s completely healed, and his big, gorgeous caramel-colored eyes are finally getting their moment in the spotlight. He was named Fennec for the squinty, fox-like look his eye condition gave him. The name still fits; the squint, thankfully, does not.
A word of caution: Fennec plays like a tiny, furry MMA fighter. His preferred play style involves biting and scratching, and despite his foster mom’s best efforts, he hasn’t quite accepted that human skin is not a chew toy. He is not aggressive; he just has some questionable ideas about appropriate recreational activities. A home with older children only is a must. He’d also do best with people who understand kitten play and can redirect his enthusiasm toward more appropriate targets.
Speaking of targets, Fennec loves wand toys, springs, and tiny bits of trash that somehow become the most fascinating objects on earth. He’s also extremely food motivated after his difficult start in life, so expect him to supervise kitchen activities closely—and possibly attempt to herd your feet while you cook. Personal space is one thing; dinner is another.
Fennec could fit into a quiet or lively home and is fairly independent, provided he has opportunities to play and someone to appreciate his company. He’s not been around dogs, but his calm attitude means he would probably be fine with them after an appropriate introduction.
Fennec is ready for his next chapter: a home where he can enjoy his food, show off those beautiful eyes, and continue his career as a surprisingly affectionate little menace. He’s already overcome a lot. He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. Now he just needs someone to love him for the wonderfully weird kitten he is!
