DESCRIPTION

Special needs kitty, needs special human!

Salem is actually a delightful cat, but her issue is some kind of allergy causing her skin to break out every few months. What she needs is to be the only cat in the home where she can go through a food trial to see if she is allergic to one of the foods. I will provide that food for the trial, but in my home situation with five other cats, I cannot keep her isolated to feed.

Salem actually went to a home a year ago – she came into Rescue when her human mom died and she had nowhere to go. I kept her for a few months and thought the skin issue was due to stress – she had been through so many changes. It took a while for her to settle in, but once she did, things had improved. I had given her an injectable steroid to calm the inflammation, and her skin looked beautiful. She went to the new home and a short time later broke out again, but... Once again, there was stress in the change. Throughout this last year, I’ve kept in contact with this home and unfortunately, while they are the nicest people in the world they have had way too many changes for this cat. She went to the home with her sibling from the original site, the people had a toddler (but a well-behaved one) and time andspace for the cats to adjust. Sadly, a young rambunctious large breed dog was introduced to the family, and Salem absolutely will not tolerate him. A new baby in the family came along as well, and I encouraged them to return the cats. It needs to be said that these cats were loved there – the humans did not want to give them up, but for the good of the cats they did.

While Salem could be adopted with her sister Raven, from what I have seen in the time I’ve known them they are not bonded at all. They know each other, they get along OK, but they really don’t interact that much. I think Salem will do best in a quiet home as the only pet, she loves attention and she doesn’t like to share it! She’s a cuddler, she will sleep on your lap, and she loves to sleep with you at night. I will be happy to be involved in the process of getting this skin allergy under control. I just want this cat to not have to have another change in her life – I want her next home to truly be her permanent home.

A few of the pictures I am including show how the fur looks at this point. When everything is clear, her coat is sleek and glossy. But for now she is still a bit rough.

If you’re interested in learning more about her, please contact Nancy at grassrootsrescuewa@gmail.com. If you provide a phone number, I will be happy to give you a call, or we can chat via email. Salem is currently in Foster in Granite Falls Washington.
