Zelda Houston - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in Denver, Colorado

Meet Zelda, a petite little ~8 month old brown tabby girl kitty.

Zelda came from Houston with her mama and three siblings, where they were found as strays and put on the euthanasia list for being deemed too scared of humans and unfit for adoption. Once in our care, the kittens had to get over ringworm and upper respiratory infections, all while a socialization foster worked with them to help them trust humans more.

All of Zelda's siblings and her mama have since been adopted- but this sweet little girl is still left waiting for her chance. She was the runt of the litter and struggled with some G.I. upset keeping her from putting on weight, but has since had her symptoms in this regard improve. She is still quite tiny, however, though she has a very good appetite!

Zelda is suspected to occasionally have feline herpes flare-ups, possibly caused by stress, that make her eyes and nose weepy/snotty. Feline herpes (FHV-1) is very common, where vets estimate between 80-90% of domestic cats have it in their systems. It can cause flare-ups of cold-like symptoms that are usually brought on by stress factors. It doesn't always require medical intervention as the flare-ups usually resolve on their own.

Once Zelda is in a home where she can feel familiar with the surroundings, her people, and feel safer, she may not have more of these flare-ups in symptoms. The shelter is a rather stressful environment for kitties- they of course thrive best once in a home.

Zelda is often looked over by potential adopters because of her occasional sniffles and her shy demeanor. She is still quite shy, and will sometimes tuck herself away into a hiding spot to nap. She doesn't always accept pets from everyone, and sometimes would rather run away from an outstretched human hand... but other times, she will accept gentle pets and enjoy them with a little extra patience and some trust built.

She may not become the most affectionate lap cat, but is still sure to blossom more and build trust with her future owner. Her adopter should be willing to work with her in this aspect, and know that she might need some time to trust.

Zelda has gotten along very well with other cats and would enjoy having a cat friend, though would likely still do fine as an only pet. We are unsure about dogs.
