DESCRIPTION

Meet Curry!

Curry is a handsome ginger boy born on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. His story could have ended almost as soon as it began.

Curry came into our shelter at only seven weeks old, extremely sick with feline herpesvirus. He was just a tiny baby fighting a terrible upper respiratory infection, and for a while, we didn't know what his future would hold. But Curry fought for his life, and he won.

He has spent the months since then growing up in foster care, where he has learned what it means to feel safe and loved. Curry is healthy and happy, but the infection he survived left behind some lasting effects. His eyes may water, and he may sneeze from time to time. These symptoms can come and go throughout his life, particularly during periods of stress. Severe herpesvirus infections can leave cats with chronic eye and upper-respiratory problems even after they have recovered from the original illness.

Feline herpesvirus is extremely common in cats. After infection, the virus remains dormant in the body for life, much like herpesviruses do in other species. Most of the time it simply stays there, but stress can cause it to reactivate and produce another bout of watery eyes, sneezing, or congestion. Cats with feline herpesvirus can still live long, happy, completely normal lives.
And Curry is not a danger to people, dogs, or other non-feline members of the family. Feline herpesvirus is species-specific, with no known transmission to humans or other non-feline species.

For homes with other cats, there is one important distinction we want adopters to understand. Curry is not continuously contagious simply because he once had herpesvirus. The virus remains latent much of the time and is not shed during latency. However, a carrier can intermittently shed virus when it reactivates, so transmission to a susceptible cat is possible through close contact with infected nasal, oral, or eye secretions. Vaccination greatly reduces the risk and severity of disease, although it cannot guarantee that another cat will never become infected.
None of that changes who Curry is.

Curry survived something that tried very hard to take his life when he was only seven weeks old. Now his only chance at the life he fought so hard for is someone willing to look past an occasional watery eye or sneeze and see the beautiful little cat underneath.

Curry may not always look perfect. His eyes may sometimes tell the story of what he survived. But he will do his very best to be your best friend for the rest of his life.

He fought for his chance to grow up.

Now he just needs someone to give him his chance to go home.
