Gobi - Domestic Long Hair Cat for Adoption in Traverse City, Michigan

When Gobi was surrendered to TC Paw, his previous owner claimed Gobi was "handicapped" and didn't keep himself clean. Not quite true. Gobi was just so fat he couldn't get around to his own parts to tidy himself. In the short time he's been with us, Gobi has trimmed down quite a bit, and he grooms himself as well as any other cat. His deafness might be a handicap, but he doesn't think so. He does meow quite loudly. He just needs simple accommodation like making sure he never gets out, and that he sees you when you have to direct him away from something he shouldn't do. You can google tips for teaching deaf cats.

Gobi is a genuine presence. His face is riveting. Even when he reaches a good weight, he'll still be a really big guy. He's friendly to all, and he loves attention. He'll sit across your lap, sleep with you at night, and keep you company during the day. Though he likes other cats, he's big, and he plays rough. With people he's quite gentle, and we think he'd do well in a family with kids who'll play with him, pet him, and give him attention. As Gobi slims down, he runs around and plays energetically with toys. He's a good litter box user. His long black coat needs frequent, regular brushing, which he likes, to keep it tangle-free and soft. Gobi's diet has to be controlled, so he shouldn't live in a home where he's free fed. Letting a cat get as fat as he was is just wrong. If you apply for him, please be committed to helping him reach a healthy weight and stay there. Gobi's foster family welcomes home visits to meet the big guy.
