Meet the Black Cat Bottom Six.

Their story begins on a remote stretch of Black Cat Bottom Road in Amory, Mississippi, where 11 cats and kittens were left behind in the middle of nowhere, quite literally left to fend for themselves.

A young girl and her friend were out enjoying a little off-roading in a Jeep, headed toward a small waterfall, when they passed a truck on the remote road. After turning around and taking a different route back, they came across something they certainly weren't expecting: 11 cats and kittens sitting in the middle of the road. The truck was gone.

Why someone would leave these animals behind will probably never be known. Perhaps a family member passed away, and the remaining family didn't want the responsibility of caring for the cats. Whatever the circumstances, someone made the decision to leave 11 living creatures in the woods and hope for the best.

Thankfully, two young people came along who cared enough to stop.

And now, we'd like you to meet six of the adults who are ready for their next chapter.

Montgomery is our playful gentleman. He manages to be independent and snuggly all at once, which is a pretty wonderful combination. He's met small dogs and other cats and did just fine. He can be a little mouthy when playing, so a home with very young children or anyone with particularly delicate skin might need to keep that in mind. He's absolutely precious and will make someone a wonderful companion.

Reginald is quite the handsome fellow. His gorgeous long hair and easygoing personality make him a real standout. He loves other cats and would do wonderfully in a home with children. He did meet some dogs, but apparently wasn't impressed with the whole puffing-up-the-fur-and-issuing-a-warning routine. Reginald prefers a more refined approach to introductions!

Fitzwilliam is another handsome young gentleman with a wonderful disposition. He's good with other cats and would be a lovely addition to a family with children. He's got all the makings of a wonderful companion.

Cressida is a beautiful girl who may very well be the mama to many of the kitties in this group. While the cats aren't bonded, she is frequently found cuddling with Delphine. We think these two could make a particularly lovely pair for someone interested in adopting two.

Odette is about as close to a perfect kitty as they come. She's wonderful with everyone, has a calm and easygoing personality, but still wants to know exactly what you're doing. She's the kind of girl who will quietly supervise your daily activities and make sure you're doing everything correctly.

Delphine is a sweet girl who shares a special closeness with Cressida. These two are often found snuggled together. She would make a lovely companion on her own, but we'd certainly love to see her and Cressida get the opportunity to share a home if the right person comes along.

There is something especially heartbreaking about this group. These cats are social, affectionate, comfortable with people, and clearly knew what it meant to be loved by a human. They didn't become this way by accident. Someone cared for them. Someone knew their personalities, their habits, and probably their favorite places to nap.

How they ended up abandoned in the woods is a mystery we'll likely never solve.

But we do know this: their story doesn't have to end on Black Cat Bottom Road.

These six are ready for a fresh start, a safe place to call home, and people who will never leave them wondering where they belong.
