SPROUT

Quaker Parakeet
🇺🇸
Waukesha, Wisconsin
August 3rd
female, medium, adult

DESCRIPTION

Sprouts is a DNA-sexed Female Quaker parakeet. She was a stray from MADACC so we do not know her age or history. She is tame and handlable.

Monk Parakeets, more commonly known as Quakers, can be great companions for the right home. Quakers are incredibly intelligent and social birds, but they can also be extremely messy and noisy. They generally like to do everything with their flock, including eating and spending time outside the cage. In the wild, Quaker flocks build large, apartment-style nests where each member has its own space within the larger structure. When separated from flock mates, they often call to each other with a loud cry until they are reunited.

As pets, Quakers build flock bonds with their humans; they want to go where their humans go and eat what and when their humans eat. They often enjoy head scritches, dancing and chirping to music, and building structures in their cages by weaving sticks and strings together. They would do best in a home with a patient family who understands their unique needs and doesn't mind some noise.

Please note that Quakers are currently restricted in Wisconsin by the DNR. They are considered an invasive species, so all pet Quakers must be licensed. The licensing is free of charge and easy to apply for, and CARE will be happy to help facilitate the process with the adopters.

If you are interested in adoption, please go to www.centerforanimalrehab.org, read our Adoption Policies, and fill out the Adoption Application. Once your application is approved, we will set up a meet and greet with you/your family.

We are located in Waukesha, WI and do not ship. All adopters must live within a 100 mile radius.

Please note that we do not facilitate opposite-sex adoptions, as our organization does not promote breeding and focuses on preventing hormonal issues in the home.
