Jolly Rancher is the shyest of the three African Grey Parrots, but underneath that cautious exterior is a sweet bird who is slowly learning that the world is not such a scary place after all. Jolly Rancher has not stepped up for us yet and tends to prefer admiring people from a comfortable distance, but will happily hang out nearby with their favorite person while softly whistling and making the most adorable little goose-like honking noises.
When Jolly Rancher first arrived, it took several days before they felt brave enough to come out of their cage and explore their surroundings. Since then, they’ve started genuinely enjoying their out-of-cage time and are slowly building confidence at their own pace. Of the group, Jolly Rancher appears to be the youngest and likely the least socialized, which means they will need a very experienced, patient adopter willing to let trust develop naturally over time without pushing too hard, too fast.
Jolly Rancher may never be the life of the party like some parrots are, but for the right person, watching them slowly come out of their shell will be incredibly rewarding. Their sex is currently unknown, and honestly, your guess is as good as ours at this point.
Like all African Grey Parrots, Jolly Rancher is highly intelligent and emotionally sensitive, and is looking for a home with medium to large bird experience that understands the commitment, patience, and enrichment these amazing birds require.
