Meet Louey, a hometown hero who came back to roost! (At least until he finds his forever home!) Nearly two decades ago, this handsome blue crown conure served as an "ambassador bird" for STAR, attending events and teaching the public just how wonderful companion birds can be.
A little shy and very gentle, Louey can be a bit timid about trying new things, such as a rearranged cage or a new toy. While previously hand tame, an injury in his past caused him to regress with handling, so he will need a patient and dedicated adopter to teach him how to be a companion bird again. He has been fairly reluctant to come out of his cage in his foster home, but we haven't given up on him yet!
Despite being a blue crown conure, Louey isn't all that loud. Most of his noises are happy squawks, which he makes while doing his favorite activity-- swinging! Seriously, can this boy swing, swing, and swing some more! It might just be one of his most charming qualities.
Louey is currently transitioning to a pelleted diet, and he enjoys a good snack. His favorites, in no particular order, include banana (chips and fresh), papaya, nuts, pistachios, and grapes.
Louey is not yet hand-tame, but is happy to accept treats. He is comfortable interacting from a distance and is definitely interested in everything going on around him. Louey's idea of a perfect afternoon is filled with fun toys and quiet companionship. (Oh... and swinging, of course!)
