A little 6 lb. Yorkie/Chihuahua mix, Ben is a contradiction - at times he is timid and snuggly with people but then can be feisty (with dogs who challenge him). He is independent, loves to spend lots of time outside exploring and barking, but yet insecure - checking in for assurance that you are still there. In foster care, initially Ben and his brother were separated because they would not get along. It turns out that Ben was not the innocent little victim that he pretended to be (little stinker). At his second foster home, there is a dominate female who gathers all the toys and growls at any dog who comes near her stash. Ben’s reaction is not to run away but takes on the challenge and attacks. Inspite of his occasional feistiness, Ben loves playing with other dogs and toys (including the hoarding female as long as she doesn’t growl at him); would be delighted to live with a playful, easy-going doggie companion or two, in an adult home or home with older dog-friendly kids and a fenced yard to run and explore. Ben sleeps in a dog bed on the floor, on the couch or in bed with his person; a bit barky; energetic, curious, alert; responds to his name; has learned to go outside to potty but sometimes leaves little poops on the floor or in his bed overnight; not leash trained; not cat or large dog tested; has a huge personality in a little four-legged body! For some reason, he needs extra encouragement to walk through the doorway to go in and out of the house. He is a smart little guy who learns quickly. Ben has been enjoyable to foster and would be a fun little companion for the right person willing to work with his occasional quirks and busy, playful energy level.
