White German Shepherd Dogs Available for Adoption

SUGAR (AKA CHERRYL) NOT AT THE SHELTER (ALLISON)

White German Shepherd
🇺🇸
Rustburg, Virginia
February 19th
female, large, senior

DESCRIPTION

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.New start? That’s what we’re looking for for this beautiful former shelter girl. She is now fostered, and has been fostered for several months. But she is finally making the progress we had hoped to see, and we want to share that good news with everyone who is a German Shepherd fan! After eight years of living in what we imagine was an unsocialized, possibly isolated area, Sugar has opted to make friends with people, and is willing to learn new experiences. Right now she is fostered by a family with one other dog, who have done a super job of helping her learn that life can be predictable, and that good things happen when you can trust people. Truly, senior dogs have the hardest time making adjustments, and we are praying she will continue her progress with trust. Not totally house trained yet, but she has finally learned to traverse the household where she is fostered, and use the door to the backyard to go in and out as needed. Her foster mom is working hard with her on a leash, and again it’s a matter of trust. She lives with another gentle dog, and tends to be the assertive one in the household. She is happy to associate with the household cat. We look forward to continuing her socialization and helping her become a more well-adjusted dog, although she will probably never be one of those who wants to go out and about and meet people. However, if you’re looking for a companion to be your best friend, and someone that you can teach to trust, she is still considered a bit of a project. She is about 70 pounds. Spayed, and current with vaccines.

UPDATE: Sugar is her new name, and it fits this princess. She is making baby steps in becoming more confident, but we know she has a long way to go. Her foster family is doing everything they can! Fencing, a private room, a gentle dog to be her mentor.... all are part of the process. ***When beautiful Cherryl was signed over to the shelter by her caregiver, we were told she was eight years old and had already had eight litters of puppies! We will never know because the person who cared for her said she had rescued her from a neighbor who had allowed her to become pregnant over and over. We are glad that we were able to get a spay for Cherryl, and she is recovering nicely.
