Meet Bruce!

Bruce is a 2-year-old, 73 lb Terrier mix with a big personality, a goofy side, and plenty of potential. He’s looking for someone who will appreciate the great dog underneath those still-developing manners and give him the structure he needs to succeed.

Bruce is smart, treat motivated, and eager to learn. He knows "sit," walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, responds well to correction, and is a huge fan of belly rubs. Find the right spot and this big guy will happily flop over and collect all the scratches you’re willing to give.

He’s still working on keeping all four paws on the floor when he gets excited. Bruce has already made great progress, but his future family will need to be consistent and continue reinforcing his manners.

The shelter environment can be overwhelming for Bruce, and he sometimes shows barrier frustration in his kennel, particularly when other dogs are passing by or enjoying time outside. His kennel behavior isn’t the best representation of who he is. Get him out on a leash and spend some time with him, and you’ll see much more of the smart, happy, goofy dog underneath.

Bruce currently shares kennel space with Betty, the dog he arrived with, and has also done well meeting some other dogs. A meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings is recommended.

One important thing to know about Bruce: he is an impressive climber and has figured out how to climb kennel fencing. His future home will need a secure setup, and his escape-artist abilities should be taken seriously.

Because Bruce is a large, enthusiastic dog who is still learning his manners, he needs an adult-only home or one with older teenagers. His ideal family will be comfortable providing structure, boundaries, continued training, exercise, and plenty of attention.

Bruce may not arrive with perfectly polished manners on Day 1, but he brings plenty of good qualities to work with. For someone willing to invest a little time and consistency, there’s a smart, affectionate, belly-rub-loving boy here with so much potential.
