Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption

Sprout is the kind of dog who makes you exhale a little deeper and soften your whole day just by being near you.

This tiny senior Poodle/Terrier mix came to West LA Animal Shelter as a stray with signs of an old jaw injury, but you'd never know he's been through something hard by the way he quietly leans in for love. In foster, he warmed up on his very first night, gently asking for pets and settling into laps like he'd been waiting his whole life for a soft place to land.

Sprout is a low-energy, deeply cuddly little gentleman. His absolute favorite place is in your lap or curled on your chest under a blanket, soaking up gentle pets. He's happy with a few short walks (10-15 minutes to keep his arthritis and herniated discs comfortable), a couple of mellow play moments, and lots of snoozing. On leash he's a dream - no pulling, no drama, just trotting sweetly by your side and politely watching other dogs, people, and even cats go by with a wagging tail.

He's house trained, sleeps through the night, and was a perfect little cafe companion, content to chill quietly and just be part of things. He even rode around in a shoulder sling like a pro, happy to go wherever his person went.

Sprout does have some medical needs (arthritis, back issues, and healing from a recent dental with multiple extractions) and he's not supposed to do stairs or jump. He also has some separation anxiety and is still learning that being alone can be okay, so he'll need someone home much of the time and willing to work through that with patience and kindness.

His ideal home is calm, gentle, and soft in every way - maybe with another small, easygoing dog friend - and with a person who has a special place in their heart for seniors.
