Meet Byron!
This handsome, smiley boy has been waiting far too long to find his forever home and would love nothing more than a family to call his own. Byron is approximately 7–7½ months old and already weighs around 65 pounds. He is still growing and will likely continue to fill out, so we expect him to remain a solid, large boy as an adult. While we cannot confirm his breed without a DNA test, he appears to be a Pit Bull–type mix. Please don’t let outdated stereotypes stand in his way — bully breeds are incredibly loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, and Byron truly embodies those traits.
Byron was found as a stray roaming the streets of Texas and has been growing up in a shelter environment since early January. While we don’t know much about his past, we do know he deserves far more than a kennel. He is at such a critical age where stability, guidance, and love will shape the dog he becomes, and he is more than ready for that opportunity.
Like most adolescent dogs, Byron is still learning the basics. He is working on house training, leash manners, and polite greetings, and his future family should be prepared for typical young-dog energy and the consistency that comes with continued training. With patience, structure, and ongoing guidance, he will mature into a devoted, well-balanced companion.
Byron has done very well with other dogs and would likely thrive with a playful canine companion who matches his energy. He has not been tested with cats, so a home without cats may be best unless adopters are experienced and committed to slow, proper introductions. He has had limited exposure to children in the shelter, so we recommend a home with respectful, dog-savvy kids who understand boundaries and appropriate interactions — especially given his size and enthusiasm.
Byron would do best with a family that can provide both physical exercise and mental enrichment. A fenced yard would be ideal to safely burn off energy, and due to his size and activity level, a house setting is strongly preferred over apartment living. He is a bright, loving boy who simply needs someone willing to invest in him and give him the chance he has been waiting for.
The shelter Byron is currently in is severely overcrowded, and without a committed adopter, dogs like him face uncertain futures. He is ready for someone to see his potential and give him the safe, loving home he deserves.
Health:
Byron is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. He is still too young for heartworm testing but is otherwise healthy and ready to begin his new life.
Important Information:
All of our dogs, including Byron, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to adopters once adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet him in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after finalization.
