Midnight didnt end up on a rescue transport or in a shelter run. He ended up in our arms because someone refused to look away.
A small, trembling black dog was being offered for $20 on a cold NYC street by a homeless man. Someone couldnt bear to leave him behindand that decision saved his life.
Midnight arrived to us painfully thin, shaking from fear, and with an old, untreated broken leg that had healed at the wrong angle.
Our vets say it cant be fixed now, but Midnight doesnt know that: he still runs, plays, and hops around happily on three legs when he gets tired. As long as it isnt hurting him, the surgeon recommends letting him live just as he is.
But Midnights scars arent just on the outside. Somewhere in his past, something happened that left him deeply afraid. He loves his person and bonds fiercely with thembut in a busy household, his fear is so great hell bite to protect himself. It isnt anger. Its trauma. And it breaks our hearts to watch.

Ideally, he'd love to be a working dog, he does best when given tasks like herding and running and playing fetch. But next best thing, to be someone's one and only companion. He doesn't share humans well, so if you've dumped your significant other, Midnight is ready to slip into your DR'S and under your covers!
