RESCUE STORY - They tell me my name means "Strong Warrior," which feels like a big name for a gentle soul like me - but I think it fits the story of where I came from. My story started in August 2024, when my brave mama was found tied to a wooden box on the street, huddled closely with me and my eight brothers and sisters. I was just a tiny, one-month-old puppy, still nursing. Even though my mama was very scared, she trusted the kind rescuers to take us all to Silvia's shelter. It was a little miracle that, despite being left all alone, my siblings and I were all found to be healthy and strong. I have grown up surrounded by love at the shelter, and now I'm looking for a forever home where I can finally become someone's "brave" best friend.
TEMPERAMENT - I am a gentle dog with a medium energy level. Because I have spent most of my life inside the shelter, I am initially shy and fearful of new surroundings. I am currently learning how to walk on a leash; the outside world can sometimes feel overwhelming to me, so I tend to move slowly as I take it all in. I am never aggressive, just cautious. While I am reserved with new people at first, I gain confidence quickly, and once I do, I become very affectionate. I am looking for a patient adopter who is willing to give me the time I need to feel brave and work with me on building my confidence. (video)
I am generally indifferent toward unfamiliar dogs, but I live harmoniously with dogs of all sizes and temperaments at the shelter and enjoy playing with them. I do not show any resource guarding and am even comfortable sharing a food bowl with my dog friends! I have a lot of love to give to someone who can help me continue my journey of becoming more comfortable in the world.
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I'm a pretty balanced guy. I enjoy a steady walk or some fun playtime with you, but I'm just as happy to spend the rest of my day resting quietly by your side once I've had my exercise!
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – Yes. I have met children before, and while I am a gentle boy who allows myself to be handled and even picked up, the big, busy world of kids can feel a bit overwhelming for a shy guy like me. Because I can get uneasy or fearful in new situations, I will need a home where my boundaries are respected as I learn to feel safe. As with any dog, all interactions between children and pets should be closely supervised by an adult. It is important to move slowly with me and ensure that children understand how to interact with me calmly, especially while I am still building my confidence in a new environment. (video)
Dogs – Yes. I currently live harmoniously with dog friends of all sizes and temperaments (video). I really enjoy playing with them and have a very relaxed style - I don't mind sharing my toys, and I'm even comfortable eating from the same bowl as my buddies! While I am generally indifferent toward dogs I don't know yet, I find a lot of comfort in the company of the ones I've bonded with. Video of me meeting dogs on the street.
Cats – Unknown.
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – Work in progress. I am new to learning to walk on a leash and am overwhelmed in new environments; I tend to move slowly as I take it all in (video). I am never aggressive, just cautious. I will need an adopter who is patient and happy to work with me on my leash skills and confidence. A well-fitted harness and patience combined with dedicated leash training, will help set me up for success!
House training – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)
Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
HEALTH NOTES:
I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax ($750.00 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
