DESCRIPTION

Chuckles (Chucky, Chuck) is a 2-year-old white and tan Terrier and Chihuahua mix who weighs 23 pounds. He is fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. He is working on his potty training and has been doing good with a very consistent routine in his foster home.

When Chuckles came into foster care, he was extremely timid and scared and wasn’t sure how to trust the world. With a slow and patient pace, Chuckles has been building up his confidence and now that he feels safe, he is full of so much energy and love! Chuckles will thrive with someone who understands that confidence grows slowly. New noises and environments can overwhelm him so he appreciates slow introductions. A patient adopter who lets him set the pace will be rewarded with a dog who blossoms into a joyful and affectionate companion. Once trust is built, he will become affectionate, loyal, and so grateful for gentle companionship. He will want to be with you everywhere!
He loves going for walks and gets excited to be outside and run around a fenced in yard, he is very fast! He has big energy, so he will pull on the leash while he is exploring, if something startles him (he can be spooked very easily), or if a furry critter catches his eye (he seems to be a bit of a “hunter”). Chuckles is doing a good job of learning good walking manners and he will do best in a home with a secure, fully fenced yard. He will also need a home committed to keeping him in a harness and on a leash at all times outside of his home environment especially while he gains confidence and the feeling of safety in his new area.
He has been doing well with the resident dog in his foster home. While he was healing from his neuter surgery, their interactions were kept limited and gentle. As his restrictions have lifted, he is engaging well and showing playful and friendly energy as they run and explore together. He has also been learning the joys of toys and really enjoys chasing balls.
He is a gentle soul with big, soft brown eyes and perky ears that stand at attention whenever he is curious or unsure. Once he feels safe and bonds to you, he does not like to be alone so he’ll do best in a home where someone is around most of the time and where he can be included in daily life, routines, and given endless amounts of love that he is so deserving of!

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home & truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption; discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, & 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
