My name is York and I am a 1-year-old mixed breed who weighs about 22 lbs.
I originally came from a hoarding situation in Southern California and have been learning what life as a loved house dog is all about.
I made my way to Oregon and even found a home for a few months, but it turned out I still needed a little more confidence-building than my adopter was prepared for. New people make me nervous, and when I'm unsure, I bark to let everyone know how I'm feeling. I also really love attention and have a habit of jumping up onto my person for reassurance--we should go to training classes so I can learn how to show my affection appropriately!
The good news is that I am a very affectionate boy once I bond with you. I LOVE to cuddle, snuggle in bed, and be close to my people. I'm also crate trained when needed.
With other dogs, I do especially well with female dogs. Male dogs can be more hit-or-miss for me, so careful introductions are important. I may benefit from a home with a calm, confident dog to help continue building my social skills and confidence.
I'm looking for a patient home that understands shy dogs and is willing to continue helping me grow. A multi-person household may actually help me continue getting positive exposure to different people at my own pace.
Underneath my nervousness is a sweet, loving dog who truly wants connection - I just need humans willing to help me feel safe enough to fully blossom.
