Meet Luka — a big, lovable cuddle enthusiast with an even bigger heart.
Luka is a medium-energy guy who enjoys daily walks and playing with other dogs, but his favorite activity by far is snuggling up with his person. When you're home, he'll happily let you know if he wants attention or needs to go outside, and once his needs are met, he settles nicely in his crate or playpen. Because of his size, Luka relaxes in a spacious playpen while his foster is at work, where he can stretch out comfortably.
Luka does well in a pack environment when managed by experienced handlers and introduced slowly. He is a confident, dominant dog, not submissive. He is not aggressive without provocation, but may respond assertively if challenged.
He can be selective with his dog friends, but once he finds a good match, he loves to play and spend time with them. He has done well with female dogs that around his size and great with the smaller laid back dogs, though he appreciates slow, respectful introductions. He can get a little defensive if another dog rushes up to him, so calm meet-and-greets are best. Luka would also thrive as an only dog, happily soaking up all of his humans' attention.
He's an energetic and playful boy who can play rough at times, so a home without younger children is recommended. But he is great with old children and loved being the center of attention when he was visiting a group of them. During play, Luka may grab hands or arms and nip, but this is not aggressive behavior—he's simply excited and wants to play. He responds well when redirected and settles when told, so his adopter should be comfortable recognizing when he's getting overstimulated and help him calm down before play escalates. He loves his belly rubbed and will nip if you stop, but does well when told that is not acceptable.
Luka is potty trained, he only had one accident in the house when not let out quick enough. He walks beautifully on leash and doesn't appear to be leash reactive when passing other dogs. He is extremely treat-motivated — he'll do just about anything for his beloved beef griller treats! Most of all, Luka is a loyal companion who just wants to be close to his person, soaking up love and giving endless snuggles in return.
With the right guidance and an understanding adopter, Luka will be a fun, affectionate, and devoted companion.
