DESCRIPTION
Athena ll is one of the dogs that you can meet during our dog walking program on sundays at nine am weather permitting.
Athena II is currently about 3 years old. If you read the post, you can see we got her at 10 months old in 2023. The "Story" is how we got her and she has been in our program for YEARS, because we don't give up and the right person hasn't come along.
Athena II story:
Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways. The last few days definitely has had me thinking.
On tuesday , our vet called and asked if we could take a dog who was there to be euthanized by its owner. The dog was ten months old, and the claim was the dog was aggressive. However acording to the vet and staff, there was no aggression to be seen. Vets have the right to decline a euthanasia if they don't feel it's just...... And they felt like this was bullshit.
Because it was our vet I said yes right away. I never asked what she looked like or what breed she was....... It really didn't matter , the answer was still yes.
The following day I followed up to make sure that the dog had shots before I picked it up. One of our people happened to be at the vet that day and looked at the dog, and inform me the dog was about fifty pounds and looked like a shepherd.
Of course our wonderful board and train said yes she could come there, because as usual, our houses were already overfull. I called our vet back to make sure that the dog was ready to go, and I was informed it was a female. I had completely forgotten to ask. Then I asked if the dog had a name.
This is how the rest of the conversation went as I remember it.
Me: Does she have a name?
Clinic: Nobody told you?
Me: Told me what?
Clinic: Her name is Athena...
(My heart ached and lifted in the same breath).
Athena is a very special name to me, it's the name of my soul dog who passed away in January 2024. And now you know why she's a number 2.
Athena II
She walks well on a leash and is a very sweet girl.
She takes treats with a soft mouth and plays well with other dogs.
We do not know if she's good with cats or small children.
If you're interested in meeting Athena II, please sent us an email to animalrescue@ebarr.org
Let's have a conversation if she's a good fit for your home.
