Shepherd and Mixed Breed Dogs Available for Adoption

GERDA

Shepherd, Mixed Breed
🇨🇦
Winnipeg, Manitoba
April 1st
female, medium, adult

DESCRIPTION

Gerda is approximately 1 year old and weighs 46 pounds.

She is great with kids and other dogs but has not been tested with cats.

She is fully housetrained and crate trained.

Gerda is an incredibly sweet and gentle dog.

When she and her only surviving puppy first came into care, she was extremely fearful and skittish. She didn’t want to share space with people at all, it was clear that she didn’t trust people or her new environment. It felt as though she had never lived inside with people before.

At the same time, she was incredibly well-behaved.
She never chewed or damaged anything, not a single item.
She didn’t demand anything and didn’t seek attention, she seemed to want to be invisible.
She would only approach her food and water bowls when no one else was around. Even something as simple as loud laughter would scare her and send her into hiding. If you weren’t actively looking for her, you wouldn’t even know she was in the house.

Her foster realized that all she needed was a safe space, love, and time, a lot of time.

With daily gentle care and affection, speaking softly to her, she began to transform. After two months, she is a completely different dog. She trusts her foster now and runs to greet her when she comes home with a wagging tail!
She walks beautifully on a leash and does not pull, though she should not be off-leash, as unfamiliar environments can still scare her and she may run away.

Today Gerda is very sensitive, gentle, and deeply affectionate. She needs love and thrives on it.
In the home, she is quiet and well-mannered, she doesn’t jump on guests, doesn’t damage anything, and quickly understands boundaries.

Gerda will become endlessly loyal and grateful to the person or family who gives her a home, space, love, and patience. Once she fully settles in, she will be a truly wonderful companion and a devoted member of the family.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
