Fostered in Windsor
Pongo is a charming and handsome 1.5 year old, 12 lb, male rat terrier. He's travelled all the way from Texas to meet you.
Pongo is playful and respectful with other dogs. He enjoys zooming around the yard chasing balls and chewing stuffies on his bed. Pongo looks forward to our walks in the neighbourhood and is curious to meet strangers both dogs and humans.
As long as Pongo gets sufficient exercise (e.g. playing fetch and walks), he may be okay without a fenced yard. He does like to dig, so he would need to be monitored when in the yard. He does whine a bit first thing in the morning to get out of his crate and is excited when we come home, so he does make some noise, but so far has not been a barker.
Pongo is a very intelligent boy. He investigated every hole at the fence, and helped to dig a few holes in the garden too. He is a pleasure to train as he is very food motivated.
Pongo has been staying in his crate in the evenings for bedtime. He is doing excellent with potty training but will still require supervision and boundaries in the home.
Pongo has also been doing amazing with training and quickly learned to stay on place (his cozy pillow bed). When it's time for fun, he's go go go, and when it's time to relax and cuddle, he settles down nicely.
Pongo's sweetest feature (besides his cute little spots) is when you call him, he comes and places his chin right in your hand. Pongo is a social boy who just wants to be loved by all.
Rat terriers are an active breed and will require some exercise everyday. Please note Pongo does have a prey drive and loves to chase squirrels, birds and outdoor cats. For this reason, he will need to be double leashed (one on collar & one on a harness), and you'll need to keep a tight hold of the leashes when critters are near, in case he tries to take off after them. In the house, Pongo has done well with our cat. He is just curious and respectful.
This amazing boy deserves a wonderful home. He is gentle, intelligent and eager to please. An active, individual/family that will continue to exercise and train Pongo would be ideal. Any children in the home should be over 7 and dog savvy, due to Pongo's energy and excitement level. Also, if he is going to be left alone for very long, a doggy day care, or a midday walk would help keep him happy. He would enjoy an equally playful doggy sibling or be happy as the only beloved pet.

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter .
*EXCLUDING UNALTERED PUPPIES UNDER A YEAR.
The adoption fee also includes, at a minimum, vaccinations, de-worming, I.D. tag and microchip insertion. We gratefully accept any amount above the adoption fee as a donation used to support our mission to save as many dogs as possible.
