Fostered in Guelph
Meet Little One, a sweet, gentle 2 year old, female rat terrier mix, weighing 14lbs. She is a girl who's bursting with wiggles and kisses! She's the ultimate snuggle bug, happily spending every night burrowed under the blankets or curled up right behind your knees.
Everyone who meets her falls for her soft, sweet nature and puppy-dog eyes. She may be a touch shy at first, but she warms up in minutes and will gladly crawl into your lap (especially if you're wielding a chicken-flavoured treat!). She even recognizes the sound of her foster mom’s car and waits at the bedroom window, tail stump wagging wildly.
Originally surrendered with another small dog named Pancake, Little One wasn’t bonded, so she would likely be fine living with another calm, small dog. Bigger pooches tend to scare her, though, especially on walks. It's not certain whether she's okay with kids, but would likely tolerate older, respectful mini-humans.
She does get cold easily and isn't a fan of her harness or coat. Despite that, she walks fairly well on a leash, but if something startles her, she backs up and tries to head home. One time she even broke loose, so she'll need to be double leashed to a secure, escape‑proof harness and collar, for her safety. Little One is doing great with learning to go to the bathroom outside, though she’s still working on becoming consistent.
She does experience separation anxiety and may cry or yip when left alone, so she’s best suited for a fully detached home with someone who is around most of the time. She simply feels safest when her person is nearby. She also doesn't care for car rides, but with patience and reassurance, she can continue to make progress. A fenced yard would also be nice.
Above all else, Little One is a deeply loving, gentle little soul who wants nothing more than to be someone’s cherished companion. If you’re looking for a small dog with a huge heart — one who will snuggle her way into your life and love you endlessly — Little One might just be your perfect match.
