Fence needed: No fence required - but Andy absolutely needs an active person who enjoys getting out and moving. Plan on long walks - 2 to 4 miles at least twice a day. Andy’s nose is fully operational, and he believes the world is meant to be explored one fascinating smell at a time. He loves strutting along beside his favorite human, leash in hand, proudly taking in everything the day has to offer.

What kind of home would be best for me: Andy is high-energy, high-engagement, and full of personality. He’s the kind of dog who wakes up every day convinced it’s going to be the best adventure yet. His ideal home will appreciate a confident dog who wants to be deeply involved with his person.

He does great with other dogs who share his enthusiasm for life—another playful, high-energy dog could be a wonderful match (he especially adores Dewey). A laid-back senior dog, however, might find Andy’s zest for life a bit overwhelming. For Andy, the secret ingredient isn’t size - it’s energy and enthusiasm for life. Match that, and you’ll have an incredible companion.

What is my personality like: Andy is loving, devoted, and very sure of himself. He doesn’t see himself as a dog who should be managed - he sees himself as a partner.

If Andy finds a toy he loves, he’s going to claim it with great enthusiasm. He enjoys winning the prize and being the one who gets the good stuff. There is not a mean bone in this boy’s body - nothing aggressive at all. Andy simply has a big personality and a joyful belief that life is meant to be shared with his human.

He’s the kind of dog who wants it all - your heart, the best toys, the longest walks, and your full attention. The good news - for the right person, Andy will absolutely be enough.

How do I act when I first meet new people: Andy can play a little hard to get at first. Like many dogs coming out of rescue, he follows the classic 3 days / 3 weeks / 3 months adjustment rhythm. Give him those first few days to settle in and understand that he’s safe, and suddenly you’ll discover you’ve gained a loyal new sidekick.

At the adoption center Andy may do a bit of sniffing and observing before choosing his person. Right now he often checks in with his current best friend, Anna - but once she leaves, Andy quickly starts scouting out who his next best friend might be.

Other tips and tidbits: Andy’s birthday is 12/17/24, so he’s still a young guy with plenty of curiosity about the world.

He has not been tested with cats yet.

He currently lives with several dogs smaller than he is and does great, and he’s also had playdates with larger dogs without issue.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Potential Adopters

Dogs can’t drive — and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them.
