Meet Penny 🐾
Breed: Pomsky
Age: Approximately 5 to 7 years
Sex: Spayed female
Weight: 12 pounds
In our care: 3 weeks
⸻
Penny is tiny but mighty, and very quietly brave.
At just 12 pounds, she takes up very little physical space, but her heart is enormous. Penny is extremely timid and still learning that the world can be a safe place. Right now, her crate is her sanctuary. It is where she feels secure, where she rests, and where she gathers the courage to keep trying.
Over the last few weeks, we have started to see glimpses of the sweet little soul inside. She has become attached to a few stuffed toys and will carry them around proudly. Sometimes she rolls in her bed with them, sometimes she pounces with a running start, and sometimes she just cuddles them close. These tiny bursts of play are the first signs of her confidence growing.
Once Penny decides you are safe, something beautiful happens. She bonds deeply. She will follow her chosen person from room to room and quietly sit beside them whenever she can. She wants to be close. She wants to love. She just needs time to feel secure enough to show it.
⸻
Energy Level
Low. Penny sleeps most of the day and has short, gentle bursts of toy play. She is not an active dog and does not require long walks.
⸻
Other Animals
Penny can coexist with other dogs, but she does not seek them out. She needs respectful, calm companions. Small, confident dogs are best. She is fearful of large dogs, even calm ones.
Cats are unknown, but given her size and quiet nature, we do not anticipate major concerns.
⸻
Children
Penny is friendly but startles easily with loud noises and fast movement. A home without children would be ideal. Visiting children would likely be fine, but living full time with kids would be overwhelming for her.
⸻
Training
• Crate trained for bedtime and chooses to rest there during the day
• Pee pad trained
• Not house trained yet as she is still too fearful to comfortably go outside
• Not leash trained. She freezes when a leash is attached
When left alone, she may whine or howl due to anxiety.
⸻
Medical Notes
Penny recently had pyometra surgery and is recovering well. She will need a dental once she has fully healed. Booster vaccines are scheduled for early March.
⸻
Ideal Home
Penny needs a calm, quiet home with one or two adults who are home often. She does not need an active lifestyle. She does not currently enjoy walks and may never fully embrace the outside world.
What she does need is patience, gentleness, and someone who understands that trust is earned slowly. In return, she will give unwavering loyalty. The person she bonds with will gain a devoted shadow and a deeply loving companion.
There is so much love and happiness inside this little dog. She just needs the right person to help her feel safe enough to let it shine.
