Socialization: Ari is initially a bit shy in new situations and with new people. He warms up quickly and loves attention and companionship. He loves all people, is gentle meeting and greeting. Because of his age, Ari is very playful and curious. He is respectful of other dogs, submissive and can amuse himself. Ari has been introduced to dogs of various sizes, both males and females, different breeds and temperaments. Largest number at once was 13 and he adapted very well. I believe he thinks he is a 10 pound puppy because he loves to sit in your lap or drape across the back of you when space is limited next to a human. Ari shows interest in barn cats but other than meeting thru glass, he has not been in direct contact with cats. Ari enjoys going to pet-friendly places and may briefly cling and be hesitant. Once he assesses the situation he is super interested and friendly. He is an excellent rider, typically naps or will look out the window in the car.
Training: Ari is crate trained, is quiet when crated and generally only crated when we need to run an errand. He has not damaged household furnishings but is a soft-toy shredding machine. Because he could be a danger to himself, we crate out of caution. Ari has not ingested pieces of objects, removing the squeaker then some stuffing and chewing bits is why we are extra cautious. Ari comes when called, knows sit, is gentle taking treats (both individually and in a group), shares toys and bones, eats in the kitchen with three other dogs. Walking on a leash is very good (he walks an hour minimum with the pack daily). He does not beg at mealtime, rather naps nearby. Ari does not rush the door and is good about waiting in the truck to have his leash on to jump out. Ari is a tall boy and will swipe anything out of the sink if the opportunity presents. By putting a little dish soap and water in a pan or dish, he will leave it alone He loves to take things into the yard and back inside. If you can't find it, look in the yard!
Activity requirements: Ari is a young pointer. He adapts very well to routines. Much depends on if he is an only dog, is participating in structured activities like obedience classes or barn hunt or agility, or has regular playtime with other dogs. Moderate activity is adequate generally, especially if he is able to be near a human to nap! Ari is a very laid back, easy to please, gentle pointer with a sweet disposition.
Fence requirements: A physical fence is preferred for convenience and an invisible fence is also an option for him. Our yard has enrichments added with the idea that it is enough to curb the need to escape for an adventure. Ari knows what a swingset is, playhouse, sheds, patio fences/gates, a dedicated digging spot and dog door. Snow or rain does not decrease his desire to play in the yard or go for a walk. Our yard is mostly chain link perimeter with a small section of wooden privacy fence that has wire over it. Ari has never attempted to escape the yard. If his adopter does not have a fenced yard, he will need a solid daily exercise plan.
Personality: Ari is so loved by so many he has met. He sleeps in our bed or in our room at night with the three resident dogs. Sharing a spot with others is not an issue for him. Curling up in a very small space is typical. Ari loves to be near people, snuggle, be petted, and kissed on his head. He is excited to see kids. Ari has a short coat and now enjoys brushing. To clean ears and teeth, he has always been cooperative. We just were able to dremel his nails! Ari allows touching anywhere on his body. He was unsure about nails being trimmed.
Health history: Ari did test positive for giardia and worms on his first fecal exam. No symptoms observed but one of his siblings tested positive so he was tested out of precaution. Treatment with panacur resolved both issues. Ari is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, has a good appetite, skin and coat are excellent. He is on monthly heartworm prevention and his next leishmaniasis test will be due in November 2026.
This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.
Foster comments: Ari is a very adaptable young dog who would do well with almost any configuration possible. Anyone experienced with sporting breeds would not be disappointed with this boy. Ari is smart, loving, happy, very easy going, quiet, highly bidable and sweet. No bad habits have emerged. I believe two or more dogs are easier than an only for most people, just because they are pack animals and having a friend to share time with gives owners some freedom. Ari is used to multiple dogs but also enjoys one on one focus. All the good qualities you could wish for!

Guardian Angels: Our adoption fees are normally $490 but an anonymous donor made a donation of $340 toward his adoption fee through our Guardian Angel program! As a result, Beemer's adoption fee is $150. Read more about our Guardian Angel program here: https://givebutter.com/s34cU4
Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight for getting their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA.
